Light of Wessex
Wessex is more than a place; it's an idea. A living example of life, love, faith and hope. Through the Light of Wessex we reflect on who we are, and debate who we want to be
Dormus Wessex
The organisational core of One Wessex. Dormus Wessex provides the structure from which we can provide and support the day to day activites of One Wessex
Project Wessex
The 'heart' of One Wessex; Promoting projects to support everything that is great about Wessex. Our people, our communities, our history, heritage and our incredible landscapes
Our 'One Wessex' vision
One Wessex seeks to unify our ancient heritage with the hopes and opportunities of the future. Over a thousand years ago, Alfred the Great led Wessex out of near defeat in the Athelney marshes in Somerset, reclaimed Wessex and oversaw its growth and expansion. Defence, justice, education and civil order - all promoted by Alfred. Driven by faith and necessity, ensuring justice was seen, defence was assured and that education was vital. Within two generations his grandson Athelstan had united the kingdoms of what was to become "England"
Wessex faded into history, but its spirit, that 'Wessex heart' has never left us.
Wessex, the light of hope in dark times, can once again become a unifying force for good. A steadfast cause in a turbulent world. A living embodiment of the ideal that we can, together, do things in a way where everyone genuinely has the chance to succeed. Today, and every day forwards, we work to promote the peoples, places and causes that make up our home. Light of Wessex to be our soul, Project Wessex our heart. And Dormus Wessex, the body bringing it together. Faith, hope and light, wherever the Wessex Wyvern flies...
Wessex must always be the light
